DIY Wide Brim Bucket Hat | Rebecca Page sun hat pattern review
I wouldn’t have been caught dead in a bucket hat three months ago. But this slightly larger brimmed “sun hat” trend was calling my name. After a bit of internet sleuthing, I found the Rebecca Page sun hat. It’s a relatively easy pattern to sew, with 2 brim options and head sizes for children and adults. It was a perfect sew for an evening of packing and a great addition to my vacation wardrobe.
This is the first hat I’ve ever sewn…and maybe the first hat I’d put on my head outside of winter months in NYC. That is owing 100% to my large afro. But, there are a few days in every wash cycle when my hair is still wet and I wear a twisted protective style. It’s on those days I can wear this hat. And with an eye to that protection, I decided to upgrade the lining of this hat to prevent snags, split ends and breakage. Instead of using the more of the cotton remnant fabric, I pulled a polyester satin from my stash and also a satin bias tape for the binding. All in all, this a style statement for bad hair days or troublesome wet hair moments after the beach.
This hat was a simple sew for an evening. Check out the trend, grab the pattern and happy sewing.
