I love a set! There’s nothing better than matching fabrics to make your outfit look intentional and sophisticated. After all, for the suit has been the professional uniform in Western society for generations. But what about when you extend the convention of matching garments to your accessories? With this matching leopard party dress and Carrie Purse you get a fun and fashionable lewk!
This Leopard mini dress was made last year with McCall’s M7777 and 1.5 meters of jacquard. The fabric was the perfect amount for the fitted dress plus some odd-shaped remnants. With a a few long bits from between the bodice sections and some wide bits, I was able to eke out the perfect matching Carrie Purse. How glad am I that I hoard my remnants for a second life?
What do you think about the combination of dress and purse? The busy print of the jacquard almost makes the handbag invisible against my body. Would you rock this look or opt for a contrasting fabric for your Carrie Purse?
My Carrie Purse sewing pattern can be made to match practically any design style. Watch below for more background on my first sewing pattern plus inspiration for your #siscarrie makes! And this September save 15% off of the Carrie Purse pattern with code SEPTEMBER15

Fabric
- Leopard print cotton brocade
- Polyester satin lining
Modifications
- I’ve added a small zippered pocket to the lining of my Carrie Purse. Let me know in the comments if you’d like a tutorial on adding your own pocket!
- For sewing tall fit details of the McCall’s M7777, see my previous post here.
Tips
- Because my cotton jacquard had a bit of stretch, I needed to add structure to the fabric before sewing. I cut fusible interfacing for all of the of the main fabric pieces. After it was fused, I followed the steps to also add sew-in fleece interfacing.
- I used a tailor’s clapper to get neat creases along the ties.
