Today's outfit: corporate chic networking with female entrepreneurs. 💙🖤 And make the outfit 100% handmade!

As a tall woman, 'tis the season for too-short sleeves and highwater pants. Except after 8 years of sewing, I finally have a fall wardrobe that fits me! I'm excited to put together outfits that reflect my style and shape this season. As I share, let me know in the comments what you think of each look. Should I turn any patterns into a TNT and make it again in different fabrics? Should I mix up the styling and wear something with another piece? This dress had a secret mission — meeting my boyfriend's mom for the first time! Of course I had to make my own dress. I sew 100% of my wardrobe, and sewing is like half my personality, so what better ice breaker could there be? But did I make the right pattern choice? Was it the right length? When the dress looks as good inside as out! 🤩 I'm so happy to go from beautiful fabric to beautiful dress. I mean...what good was this jacquard doing locked away in my fabric stash? It deserves to shine!

Playing with Fabric - Dahomey Applique! 🦒🦁🌳 As long as I've been sewing, I've wanted to recreate the style of applique that went into the tapestry on slide 4. I own a few of these from Benin, inherited from my grandmother, and I've always wondered how it was possible to not see any visible stitches on the front. So for @nycfrocktails 2024, I chose to make a dress plus a jacket with this new-to-me hand sewing technique. I leaned into making timeless, artful designs and leaned all the way away from perfectionism. My dress and all the applique is made from scraps in my fabric stash and each piece tells a story. And I stuck to my goal and sewed the designs by hand. I'm all smiles. 😁

Can you guess how many hours it took?!?

Truth be told, these are both semi-unfinished and I will be adding fixes in the lining and buttons to the jacket. (Sleeveless jacket video from 2:21pm). But we made it to the party...and set everything up...and everyone had a good time as far as I can tell! 😅
